Full Description
Following the Nodal Point Conference of May 1941, a number of Nissen-huts were made available for use as air-raid shelters within the defensive perimeter at Canterbury. Two pairs of huts were dug into the Dane John Gardens, and mounded-over with earth. The first such pair (see separate entry) seems to have been at the Dane John Mound end of the site. In late January the following year ‘two remaining shelters [were erected] in suitable positions at the Watling Street end of Dane John.’ They were finished by about the middle of that year, probably sooner. Between them, this pair of Nissen-huts accommodated about one hundred persons.
