Full Description

At some point, possibly in late 1941 when the school returned from evacuation, a number of brick-built surface shelters were added to the (trench) shelter provision at the Simon Langton School; they were extant by the time of the ‘Baedeker’ raid on 1 June 1942. Such a shelter can be seen, amidst the bombed-out school buildings, in a photograph reproduced in Front-Line School (see sources). The grid reference given is for this shelter, although there may have been others.

The school buildings were very badly damaged during the 1942 air-raid. After the war new school buildings were constructed outside the centre of the city on Old dover Road (girls) and Nackington Road (boys).
