Full Description
A small house of nuns in Newington Manor is said to have existed c. end of the 11th century. The prioress was apparently strangled in in her bed by her cook, and as a result the king took over the manorand removed the nuns to Sheppey or Minster. Nothing else is known of this monastery of Newington, and it seems likely that it may have been merely a refuge of some of the nuns from Sheppey. (1,2) Additional bibliography - not consulted. (3)
