Full Description
St Mary's secular college, Newington. It is stated that Henry II placed seven secular canons here, granting them the estate of the former nunnery. Of these, four were found guilty of murdering one of the monks and the other two with the King's licence gave their estatesto St. Augustines Abbey. The rest was granted to Richard de Lucy. (2) Tanner (3) says that eight prebends in Newington were granted to St Augustine's Abbey by William the Conqueror. (1)
