Building record TR 16 NE 1155 - Second World War Type 24 pillbox south-east of Prospect Farm, Thornden Wood Road, Herne Bay

This is a Type 24 pillbox in a field just to the south east of Prospect Farm. It faces northwards, down the hillside, towards a the site of a Second World War road block at Owls Hatch (Thornden Wood Road), near the Share and Coulter Public House (the present Thanet Way at this point did not at that time exist). The pillbox is of low-profile, dug slightly into the ground. This was pillbox No.7 in the 1940 list of pillboxes in East Kent (2 December); it was in Sector 7 of the area, at the stated Military Grid reference R 598839.
