Full Description

For the purposes of administration, staffing, and maintenance, the Dover, Canterbury, Whitstable Stop Line (see separate entry) was divided into several distinct sectors. Sector ‘C’ of this anti-tank defensive line followed the line of the London, Chatham and Dover Railway from Snowdown Colliery to Bekesbourne Station. On its completion in mid 1940, this section of the Stop Line was assigned to a Maintenance Squad ‘c/o’ the No.5 Troop Carrying Company of the Royal Army Service Corps, who were at Womenswold. Remains of various obstacles and emplacements survive along its length.
