Full Description

In mid 1943, alongside the main Army camp at Broome Park (Camp ‘D4’), the Court Lodge of the park formed the focus and headquarters of Camp ‘D5’ of the Home Forces in the Canterbury Sub-District. Broome Park seems to have been densely occupied (especially during 1943), perhaps because the house had been vacant at the outbreak of war. The stated Military Grid Reference of the time, R 664647 seems to be excessively inaccurate.
