Full Description
This pillbox, immediately west of the junction of the Canterbury and Dover Roads, east of Barham village, was pillbox No.106 in the 1940 list of pillboxes in East Kent (2 December); it was in Sector 3 of the area, at the stated Military Grid reference R 662672. The crossroads formed the focus of the ‘X-Roads’ Nodal Point, and the pillbox probably formed part of the Nodal-Point defences. Fire may well have been directed south-eastwards, down the Dover Road, and/or southwards, down Canterbury Road, to cover the roadblocks about 400m down each of these roads, and hinder enemy vehicles approaching Canterbury and London. The pillbox no longer survives, the site is part of the Garden of Remembrance of Barham Crematorium.
