Full Description
There was a Second World War roadblock on Bekesbourne Lane under the viaduct. This was Road Block 28 in the 1940 lists of defence features. The London, Chatham, Dover Railway at this point formed part of the Dover, Canterbury, Whitstable Stop Line and this roadblock was part of the stop-line defences. It was defended principally by the Home Guard stationed in the nearby Village Hut. There was an unusual brick and concrete pillbox formed under one of the railway arches flanking the road (see separate entry).
