Full Description
The Bekesbourne Home Guard had their headquarters in the Village Hut.  This has since been demolished and there is now a new hall on about the same site.  One of their tasks was to defend the nearby roadblock on Bekesbourne Lane, under the railway bridge -- part of the Dover, Canterbury, Whitstable Stop Line defences.  The hut was evidently provided with modest defensive features; a ‘dug-out and slit trenches on the path on Station Road near the hut’ were among a number of defence works in Bekesbourne to be waiting to be cleared at the end of the Second World War.
