The 912 Home Defence Anti-Tank Battery of the Royal Artillery were formed in September 1940, equipped with six-pounder anti-tank guns, and had moved to Blean by mid October. The stated Military Grid Reference of their headquarters R 5579 falls in the middle of nowhere among the Blean Woods and may just be a general reference for Blean (in May 1940 the Reserve Company of the 9 Royal Fusiliers were listed at the same reference, described as falling in ‘Honey Hill’). In mid December, however, their address was given as ‘Wynville, Main Road, Blean.’ ‘Main Road’ could refer to either Honey Hill or Blean Common, but there is no record of ‘Wynville’ in contemporary directories. One possible candidate, known to have existed at the time, and set in extensive grounds, is ‘Woodville’ on the west side of Blean Common, at the edge of Blean Woods (a few hundred metres from the stated Military Grid Reference). Further research might be able to clear this up. 912 Battery seems to have been relieved by 922 Home Defence Battery the following year.
