Full Description
This was a firing range aligned west-east in a field to the east of Church Wood, Blean. A freestanding brick wall still stands, just inside Church Wood, offset from large earth mound and borrow pit (representing firing positions) further east. The range was apparently built by First-World-War prisoners-of-war. The range may have been refurbished late in the Second World War. On 18 October 1943 a group assembled to discuss ‘the improvement of Blean Rifle Range, Canterbury’. It can be very clearly seen on post-Second World War aerial photographs.
