Full Description

In the event of an invasion, the road bridge carrying Tyler Hill Road over the Canterbury to Whitstable Railway was intended to be demolished to provide an obstacle to enemy vehicles. Such detonations were planned on bridges up and down this railway between Canterbury and Whitstable, suggesting it was intended as a kind of stop-line. The bridge may have been mined ready for detonation, it featured in the GreatBinge practice exercise of late 1941, but the troops failed to complete the ‘detonation’.
