Full Description
This is a brick-shuttered Type 24 pillbox concealed in the hedge-line on the south side of a small track leading west off of Honey Hill. It faces north-by-north-west. According to local tradition this pillbox was disguised as a haystack, but this seems unlikely given its position in the line of a hedge. (In any case, this particular form of disguise became unpopular early on in the Second World War after one such ‘haystack’ caught fire, killing its occupants.) This pillbox must have been paired with a nearby brick-shuttered Type 28 pillbox (80m to the east up the said track). They were, together, enclosed within an irregular polygonal earthwork, extending to the north west and enclosing an area about 15000 square metres.
