Full Description
90 Field Regiment Royal Artillery established a Second World War gun emplacement at the western edge of Denge Wood, a little to the south of a long track leading westwards from Garlinge Green towards East Stour Farm. This was one of two gun emplacements close together on the woodland edge. The nearby Mystole House, to the north, was the regimental HQ. Fire was to be directed westwards, toward Soakham Down, from an observation post on Godmersham Common. These arrangements were reconnoitred towards the end of June 1940.
