Full Description
This was a pillbox overlooking, and right next to the Thanet Way, on its south side. It looks to have been a perfect-hexagonal Type 23 pillbox. If this is so then it is rather unusual in this part of the country. The Thanet Way was a major new road (1934) and would have offered invaders a very inviting route toward London; this was among a series of pillboxes built along its route. In particular, it is likely to have covered a roadblock where the Thanet Way crossed the North Stream, some way to the east. This was pillbox No.5 in the 1940 list of pillboxes in East Kent (2 December); it was in Sector 7 of the area, at the stated Military Grid reference R 670857. It was probably destroyed during alterations to the Thanet Way.
