This pillbox stands, facing south-east, just to the north of the road called Boyden Gate Hill, to the east of Highstead, in a large field. It is wholly of concrete construction and is dug into an odd little spur of land. It was clearly part of the ‘Eastern Curtain’ of pillboxes running from Ickham toward the coast at Reculver. This was pillbox No.13 in the 1940 list of pillboxes in East Kent (2 December); it was in Sector 7 of the area, at the stated Military Grid reference R 659842. In June 1940 a Royal Artillery observation post was noted very close to this pillbox. Might the latter have been used as a vantage point (and/or a poor sort of accommodation?).
