Full Description
By mid November 1940 there was a fortified house toward the west end of King Street, Fordwich, near the junction with Fordwich Road. This was fortified house No. 5 in a list of such structures made 2 December 1940 (Military Grid Reference R 521779). One possible candidate is Oakdene, on the south side of the road, which was occupied by ‘C’ company of the 9th Battalion Royal Fusiliers during May of that year. Alternatively, it may have been nearer the junction with Fordwich Road, where it could better have defended Fordwich Bridge, in conjunction with a second fortified house which was probably at the George and Dragon public house.
