Full Description
By the end of 1940 there was a Second World War roadblock at the north end of Canterbury Road, defending this northern approach to the eponymous City. This would almost certainly have been at the culvert where a sizeable drain passes under the road, just south of the fork junction. A nearby pillbox to the south-east points directly toward this spot. The culvert may perhaps have been prepared for demolition, whilst the drain will have continued the obstacle to either side. This was roadblock No. 8 in a list of such structures made 2 December 1940.
