In mid May 1943 the Gas Holders on Victoria Road (Military Grid reference R 584751) were designated as a new defended locality outside the perimeter of Canterbury Fortress, and a plan was drawn up for its defence. This would certainly have required some defensive alterations or additions, but it is not yet clear what these were.
