Full Description

By late 1941 there was a Canterbury Fortress Forward Post near the easternmost corner of the Cavalry Barracks. Cryptically, the 1941 Canterbury Fortress Defence Scheme locates this post at the ‘second R in Cavalry Barracks’ at Military Grid Reference R 602768. This seems to refer to a 1930s Ordnance Survey map, wherein the second ‘R’ coincides with an old sand pit on Old Park just beyond the Fortress’ Outer Perimeter.
