Full Description

By late 1941 there was a Canterbury Fortress Forward Post near the New Barracks on Littlebourne Road. Cryptically, the 1941 Canterbury Fortress Defence Scheme locates it at the ‘1st R in Canterbury’ probably referring to an Ordnance Survey Map. This seems to refer to a 1930s Ordnance Survey map, wherein the second ‘R’ coincides exactly with the stated Military Grid reference (R 605762) indicating a site in or near the present Howe Barracks.
