Full Description
A building on Wincheap Street, Canterbury, near the junctions with Cow Lane and Hollow Lane, and the viaduct carrying the Elham Valley Line, had been adopted as a fortified house by November 1940. This was one of two fortified houses at the same Military Grid Reference (R 581751) in lists of such buildings made in late 1940. This was fortified house No. 52 in a list of such structures made 2 December that year (the other was No. 51). One or both of these may have covered the approach up Hollow Lane. Likewise one or both may have been intended to fire westwards down Wincheap. It is, as yet, impossible to tell which is which, and nothing is known of the wartime arrangements at either building.
