Full Description

An archaeological excavation ahead of the construction of a crematorium and cemetery revealed post-medieval activity which included gullies, post-holes and two single sheep burials. The gullies ran parallel to each other and were dated with a single post-medieval pottery shred within one of the fills. The post-holes contained fragments of clay pigeons. One of the two sheep burials contained a single sherd of modern pottery which was used to date both the burials. The burials were only recorded using photography as a result. Despite earlier excavations in the vicinity of the site revealing evidence of prehistoric archaeology the site only revealed evidence for post-medieval activity. (1)
