Full Description
The friary appears on the 1st and 2nd Ed OS maps, was founded in c.1331 reputedly by the Earl of Cornwall and King Edward III. According to the Historic Towns Survey, permission was granted later to also build an oratory and mansion, other land was also donated to the brethren. In 1345 when Edward III founded Walsingham Friary, many of the friars were transferred there. Nothing more is know about the the rest of the history of this site, except that the building was still in existence in 1670 and a vault and other remains of the friary was still visible in 1881. (1)
