Full Description
Three circular cropmarks between 20 and 25m across in a row 87m long with gaps of 7m and 11m between the rings. Likely to be ring ditches and possibly barrows.
Spotted on Google Earth 24th November 2009 (Images taken 2nd May 2007).
One was excavated by the Kent Archaeological Field School between 5th-8th May 2012. No central burial was found and the ring ditch was crossed by a cobbled entrance on the south side. A number of infant burials and disarticulated human bones, along with Bronze Age pottery, were found in the fill of the ditch.
16 sherds of pottery and 28 worked flints were found. The pottery is mostly of Bronze Age date but suggests that the site started as a Beaker barrow that was reused later in the Bronze Age. (1)
