Full Description
Five test-pits were excavated across the site. Each was 'one bucket width wide', 3-4 m long and up to 4 m deep. Each test-pit was then taken down in 5-10 cm spits. Samples were taken and sieved on-site so that 5 100 litre bulk spit samples were sifted through. Two samples were retained for research purposes and one additional sample taken and assessed for ostracods and foraminifera.
A single flint was discovered by the sieving. This was a probable undiagnostic flake that could only be dated to the general palaeolithic period.
A deposit sequence was recorded:
Weald Clay (only at far south-west of the site in test-pit 1)
Fine Gravel
Clayey Silt
Coarse Gravel
Sandy-clayey gravel
Topsoil
Modern Made Ground
