Full Description
Of a large site surveyed, archaeological deposits (of post-medieval date) were only extant in one area. In this area (area b) subsoil contained inclusions of frequent small to large oyster shell, flecks of charcoal, fragments of ceramic building material and very occasional 19th century pottery and glass fragments. The subsoil at the south-western end of area b contained a large spread of whitish-grey mortar and chalk including fragments of worked chalk some of which showed evidence of facing. (1)
