Full Description
A Second World War sea fort off the coast of Margate, Tongue Naval Fort, Maunsell fort U3, was stationed at this point in 1942. It was equipped with radar and anti-aircraft guns in order to protect the sea lanes into the Thames from German mine laying activities. It was decommissioned and finally collapsed into the sea during a storm in 1996. A leg stump remains visible.
