Summary

Site of Martello Tower 16. The tower was built in 1805 but was largely destroyed by coastal erosion before 1939. The collapsed tower was visible on aerial photographs in 1941 and 1945 but no remains are visible on recent aerial photographs.

Full Description

[TR 14863350] Martello Tower (in ruins) (NR) (1) This tower has completely collapsed and only fragments of the wall remain in situ. It is said to have been blown up, during the 1939-45 war. (2) TR 149335. Martello 16. Built in 1805. It was practically destroyed by the sea before the Second World War, but the ruins are visible. (3,4) The collapsed tower was visible on aerial photographs in 1941 and 1945 but no remains are visible on recent aerial photographs.
