Full Description
A watching brief by Canterbury Archaeological Trust discovered a Flint retaining wall believed to have been constructed shortly after the removal of the stone steps, and was formed of coarsely laid reused Caen stone, limestone and rag stone, dressed with an external flint face. The retaining wall varies from the flint facing of the Northern wall, located to the west of the historic stone steps, and a rag stone faced retaining wall located to the east. (1)
