Full Description
The site forms an area disturbed by the renovation of footpath facilities (fencing) that runs partly through the area of scheduled monument KE268a, a known Mesolithic/Neolithic site. Finds were discovered during a watching brief conducted from the 1st to the 10th of December 2008.
Finds constituted five worked flint flakes from the subsoil that are not chronologically diagnostic but which the authors assume to be later prehistoric. A further three flakes were recovered from within a colluvial layer. Any traces of 'working' were assumed to be as a result of natural damage. These are taken as evidence for general prehistoric activities in the area. However, no finds are assumed to be in-situ and are therefore not directly relatable to the nearby scheduled monument.
No prehistoric archaeology was discovered within the postholes. Sections through the postholes revealed post medieval debris (glass and ceramics) within the subsoil, along with rare chalk and natural flint inclusions.(1)
