The site of Dungeness lighthouse, as it stood from 1635 to ca 1790?. Erected by William Lamplough(1-3).

Lighthouse at Dungeness built 1792 by William Coke to a design of Samuel Wyatt, comprising a 120 feet high wooden tower with brazier on top. Acquired by Trinity House in the early 19th century it was the first lighthouse to be powered by electric arc lamps, which were in place from 1862 to 1875. The building was demolished when a new lighthouse [TR 01 NE 4] was built in 1904, but the lower 2 storeys were converted to dwellings for the lighthouse keepers. The remains of the original structure now form a circular building with a hollow centre making a circular courtyard.(4-5)
