Full Description
In May 2010 a tunnel entrance was exposed in the front garden of 32 Lanthorne Road, Broadstairs. Initial inspection by members of KURG suggested it was of relatively recent origin, perhaps a First World War shelter.
The tunnel was partly filled with soil at the entrance and down the slope into it. It was approximately 3 feet wide and 4-8 feet high. It descended at about 45 degrees for about 30 feet where it appeared to bottom out but was filled with lose soil. The walls were cut through the chalk and showed clear pick marks. A large tin bucket hung from the ceiling.
