Full Description
The Brighton, Uckfield and Tunbridge Wells Company was incorporated in 1861. It bought out the extant single track line opened in 1855 between Lewes (Uckfield Junction) and Uckfield. The line was completed in 1868. The line was absorbed by the London, Brighton and South Coast company before opening. Shortly after completion, a new 3.5 mile line was built to give independent access to Lewes, Uckfield Junction on the Keymer cutoff being closed.
