Full Description
The resisitivity survey revealed a large structure approximately 40m X 40m with sharp differences in the Ohms response suggesting walls with two deep pools of very low resisitance. Curving into the first of these was a line of very low resistance travelling from a wet area in the field to the north . This spring was therefore feeding through the building
as an underground spring source not visible on the surface . It explains why the area around the whole structure was so wet. The whole structure suggests it is a Roman Bath house. This theory is borne out by the presence of Roman tegula and imbrex sherds in the bank of the Snagbrook stream . Also a triangular block of carved oolitic limestone (with section of Greek Key design in relief) was found at the corner of the high area of resistivity. Saturated and muddy conditions around the structure prevented any further investiagtion for the time being.(1)
