Full Description
Evaluation undertaken by Wessex Archaeology in June 2010 at the site of the medieval Bishop’s Palace, Halling. Earlier phase consisting of an L-shaped corner section of wall with associated internal compacted earthen floor. The brick was analysed as being of C16-C17 date but multiple types of mortar suggest it is most probably reused in this context. Later phase of walling dating to C18-C19. Also a concrete floor abutting, but later than, the palace, onto which is built a section of low walling. Date uncertain, but sealed by C19 clinker deposit. (1)
