Full Description
Building survey of structures in Lee’s Pit, Holborough, carried out by CgMs Consulting in Oct 2002.
A locomotive shed located at the east end of the pit at the quarry entrance, built between 1862-1897 (1st and 2nd ED 25" OS maps). The main building measures 21.65m E-W by 4.65m N-S, with an ancillary lean-to brickwork extension and a small brickwork ancillary structure. The building is internally divided into two rooms: the eastern measuring 12.5m long and the western measuring 7.8m long. Initially this cross wall and the two end walls had identical tapering openings, the west end subsequently being bricked-up. Walls survive to a maximum height of 3.75m above present ground level, surviving to maximum height at the western end. Roof absent. (1)
