Full Description
Evaluation excavation undertaken by MoLAS in Apr 2008 prior to construction works at Peter’s Village, Wouldham. Large retaining wall, presumably associated with 19-20th century lime kilns, though no evidence of this was found during excavation. Wall measures c.2.85m high and 400mm wide at top, with a batter of around 400mm, and a single buttress. Western wall face composed of ragstone and clunch rectilinear blocks, topped with between 2 and 5 courses of bricks. A narrow-gauge railway track was located to the east of the wall. (1)
