Full Description
[TR 12454181]. Wheel made sherds (Romano-British?) of gritted ware found by Mrs E Patterson in July 1929. (1) Mrs E Paterson could not be traced and no further information on these sherds was obtained. (2) [TR 12454182] A disturbed area of building material and possibly walls at a depth of 0.25m occur in the angle formed by the garden fence of "Braeside" and the churchyard at Stowting. As the OS record card (Authority 1 and 2) records finds of Romano-British sherds in the general area it is possible unrecorded excavations took place. Examination of the site in 1972 during a general survey of Stowting parish found coarse Romano-British sherds in the garden of "Braeside" and C13th and C14th sherds in the disturbed area at adepth of 0.4m. (Further Roman material has been found nearby - see TR 14 SW 10). (3)
