Full Description
Fieldwalking and geophysical survey undertaken by Wessex Archaeology in 2010 at Chilmington Green, Ashford. The lack of prehistoric material from the fieldwalking in an area of known prehistoric activity suggests a large degree of overburden and thus potentially unrepresentative fieldwalking results.
Field scatters suggest the settlement of Chilmington Green extended further north and south in the medieval period. (1)
In 2011 Wessex Archaeology conducted a geophysical survey of the Chilmington Green development area. A number of geophysical anomalies were detected in these areas, suggesting ditches, enclosures and perhaps pits. (2)
