Fieldwalking and geophysical survey undertaken by Wessex Archaeology in 2010 at Chilmington Green, Ashford. The lack of prehistoric material from the fieldwalking in an area of known prehistoric activity suggests a large degree of overburden and thus potentially unrepresentative fieldwalking results.

Possible Iron Age defended settlement at Coleman's Kitchen Wood, and associated geophysical anomalies noted along the crest of the ridge in adjacent fields. The presence of this settlement is dubious, and the geophysical anomalies may relate to a former wood that has been removed. (1)

A survey of the wood found no evidence of any such site, the area having been quarried in the early 18th century. A hollow way is recorded as surviving in part of the site and a 19th century cottage was also previously located in the now wooded area. (2)
