Full Description

[TR 15075753] The back wall of a Roman internal tower belonging to the city wall was exposed in 1955 while earth-moving for the new bus station. Limited excavation showed that it was embedded in the bank behind the city wall. Its rear wall was 16ft long and stood c17ft back from the face of the city wall. It remained standing to a height of 4ft 3ins. The tower was earlier than the Roman bank. No signs of a projecting tower were found outside the wall. (1-2)
