Full Description
[TR 15465782] Library [NAT]. (1) The Abbot's Guest Hall formed part of the west claustral range of St Augustine's Abbey. It was erected sometime after c1300 during a rebuilding of the entire range. After the Dissolution it was retained by Henry VIII as part of a royal palace (TR 15 NE 349). The undercroft still remains and its south end was excavated in 1845 by Butterfield, who built the College Library in 1848. (2-7)
