Full Description

(TR 15645764. Sited from CAT Topo map). Longport (Barton) Manor. (1-2) Domesday discloses that St Augustine's Abbey held in virtue of its Lordship of Longport, alias Barton (the suburban manor) seventy burgesses in Canterbury. Police jurisdiction in the fields of Barton Manor the home farm of St Augustines Abbey was the subject of a dispute between the city and the abbey in 1257. 'There seems a greater degree of certainty that there was a manor house at Barton'. (3)
