Monument record TR 15 NE 250 - Saxon tower St Augustine's Abbey

Summary

Saxon tower St Augustine's Abbey. Excavations have revealed the foundations of a probable Saxon tower at the south west corner of the Abbey church. Instead of being demolished when the Norman south west tower was constructed part of it was retained as a buttress. The probable date is thought to be early 11th century.
