Full Description
(TR 15435779 - see illustration card for plan) Abbots Lodging at site of early cellarers range on W side of the Great Court. (1-3) Abbot's Lodgings. When the buildings were first set up round the cloister by Abbot Hugh of Fleury (1099-1124) the W range contained on the ground floor the outer parlour for conversation with visitors and the cellarer's office and store. The upper floor was probably for guest accommodation. In the late C13 the whole range was taken over for the abbot - his chapel (TR 15 NE 275) was at the S end over the parlour and his private rooms over the stovehouse. Two doors and two windows remain which belonged to the abbots quarters. The cellarer's office, hall and store (TR 15 NE 305) were rebuilt on the N side of the Great Court. (4)
