Monument record TR 15 NE 294 - Abbot's buildings St Augustine's Abbey
Summary
First Abbots Lodgings at St Augustine's Abbey. Claustral buildings on the west side of the cloister originally built by Abbot Hugh de Fleury included the Abbot's Lodging. This was at the south end of the range and contained on the ground floor the outer parlour for converstion with visitors and the cellarers office and store. The upper floor was probably for guest accomodation. In the late 13th century under Abbot Thomas Fyndon (1283-1309) the whole of range was taken over for the Abbot and additional buildings constructed along the sides of the inner and outer court.
