Full Description
(TR 15505777, see illustration card for plan) A vestry or parlour N of the N transept of St Augustine's Abbey Church was partly uncovered during excavations in 1902-3 by S Evans. It corresponds to the slype or passage leading to the monks' cemetery, but in later times this was made into an oblong room. This room had an upper storey-possibly a library. (1) Sacristy, now uncovered, a narrow apartment. (2) Slype built c1087-1124. Sacristy first mentioned c1126-51. (3)
