The Canterbury UAD states that Manwood's Hospital, St. Stephen's Green, was built by Sir Roger Manwood in 1570 and consists of six almshouses to the west of St. Stephen's Church and the site of the former Hall Place. They are almost identical in design with his school at Sandwich, but here in red brick diapered, not yellow brick. The Hospital consists of a long two-storeyed range, with six doorways, stepped and gables and a small stepped gable at each end to the south front. (8,9)
