(TR 12485704) Tonford Manor and remains of [NAT] Manor House [NR] Moat [NR]. (1) Thanington: Tuniford - the ancient mansion which stood here was well defended by a moat of which some portion still remains, together with a gateway arch, and other masonry incorporated with the present house. (2) Tonford Manor, remains of a 15th century moated and fortified manor house, incorporated in a Georgian farm house. Moat surveyed at 1/2500 scale. (3) Tonford Manor. The remains of a fortified C15 house which had 4 round towers built by Sir Thomas Browne Controller and treasurer to King Henry VI. The licence to crenellate was granted in 1449. This now has later timber-framed and C18 additions. The south-west side has a C15 gatehouse built of flint with a stone arch. (4) `Tonford Manor' is listed in the county checklist of moated sites in Kent-December 1979. (5) General Listing. (6)
